to a great pair

I love punny stamps, and one of my favourites is from Stampendous, that features little images and cute sentiments.  My mom ordered an anniversary card, and I knew I had to use this set.  I picked my current fav colour combo of grey and lime green and set to work!



Isn’t it fun! Who wouldn’t love to receive this on their anniversary! The card base is SU Basic Grey, and I’ve layered some Whisper White.  DP is from my stash and I used it on the birthday cards (see previous post), also ordered by mom.  The ribbon is Old Olive satin ribbon and I was surprised how well it worked with the lime green.










I stamped the pear in grey ink, and added another beside it (I really need to get one of those mirroring stamps…) and then came my favourite part- watercolouring.

I used Pear Pizzaz (because it’d be weird if I didn’t), Old Olive and just a hint of Yo Yo Yellow to lighten it up a bit.

Some green rhinestones below the sentiment pulled it altogether.  I used some of the same DP on the inside, but forgot to take a picture.

Such a simple design, but this one still packs a punch because of that bright green.

Layered Labels and the return of Fun Flock!

I’ve been noticing a lot of paper crafters layering die cut labels; I really liked the look, so I decided to give it a whirl for my Easter tags.

I used my Spellbinders Nestibilites to cut out my labels for my tags (small circles and labels 9…I think), in Crumb Cake, Marina Mist and Very Vanilla.

I covered some shipping tags in patterned paper, then added some Certainly Celery taffeta ribbon.

I’ve had this little stamp for quite a while, I have a three stamps of this image in different sizes. I love the little one, and it’s perfect for these little tags.  The sentiment is all one line, but I stamped it separately to give the tag some balance.

 

 

Don’t you just love his fluffy tail? I love Stampendous Fun Flock, and it’s perfect for these little projects.  It adds a lot of texture, and is very easy to apply.  Just put a dab of glue where you want the flock, then press some flock down into the glue.  I seal it with an acrylic sealer (you should be able to find it at your local craft store, I found this with the spray paint). I used white Fun Flock for these tags, and also made another set of tags with a brown bunny and tail.  I don’t know which one I like better!

The second set of tags uses some more of that gorgeous My Mine’s Eye Fine and Dandy paper, with Crumb Cake So Saffron and Very Vanilla for the labels.

I think these tags are great for Easter gifts; we always put Easter treats at everyone’s plate for Easter dinner—these could be place cards!  With Spring officially arriving this past weekend, Easter is just around the corner!

Father’s Day cards with Stampendous; Part 3

Hey friends,

sorry for the delay on more Father’s day cards, that darn job of mine keeps getting in the way;)

Here’s another card I made with the Father’s Day set from Stampendous, “Thanks Dad”.

This card uses the sentiment as the focal point, instead of the tie image that the set includes.

I really love this “Dude” paper from Paper Loft!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I roughed up the edges with a Tim Holtz paper distresser, then inked the edges with some SU Chocolate Chip.

 

 

 

I used SU Very Vanilla for the sentiment and found some BG buttons that matched the colour scheme perfectly, and ties into the circle pattern on the paper.

 

 

I’ve left the inside blank, and distressed the edges of the paper to match the front of the card.

Father’s Day cards with Stampendous; Part 2

Here’s another Father’s day card made with the Stampendous Thanks Dad set:

I used the Man of the House paper again, and the same paper piecing technique on the tie. Card base is Old Olive and….well, one of the blues, lol.  I didn’t look at the label, I just saw that it would match, so I’m not exactly sure, but I think it might be Brocade Blue.

I just love this paper!

I used the WRMK eyelets again and added some orange.

 

 

 

I stamped the sentiment on the inside, and this shot shows all the layering on the front.

Father’s Day cards with Stampendous: Part 1

Hello Friends!

I know, it’s been a long time!  I’ve been super busy with work and haven’t had much time (or energy) to keep up, but my plan is to bombard you with posts over the next few days to make up for it :)

These next posts will be short, but will showcase my highly productive Victoria day long weekend.  It included one rainy Saturday, but it was perfect for a marathon crafty session.

I needed to make some Father’s day cards for the stores, so I’ll be starting off with those first.  As I’ve said before, I typically struggle with making masculine cards, but let me tell you, when you have an awesome stamp and some great paper, they come together really well!

I’ve learned to keep the layout simple and it seems to be working.  I made a mountain of Father’s day cards with my new awesome Stampendous “Thanks Dad” stamp set.  I really love this one, and it can be used for birthdays too!

Here’s Part 1:

The card base is SU Chocolate Chip (my fav) and matted with Old Olive.  I found some awesome paper by Stephanie Blais- Man of the House.  Isn’t that pattern awesome?

 

I stamped the tie stamp in Staz-On black and then paper pieced the tie.  I just love it!

 

 

 

I think I struggle with masculine cards because I don’t know what embellishments to use.  You can’t really go reaching for ribbon, or Prima flowers and rhinestone brads for your ‘manly’ cards, right?  But these eyelets really fit the bill.  They’re from We Are Memory Keepers- Earth Escape and match Old Olive pretty well.

I’m really happy with how this card turned out.  You can purchase this card at A Paper Buffet, along with all the other Father’s day cards I’ll be sharing over the next few days.

Birthday Changito for Ethan

A welcomed break from Christmas cards, I set out to make the invitations for my Godson Ethan’s first birthday party in January.

I can’t believe he’s turning one already! “yeah, that’s right, I’m gonna be one!”

This is a picture of him from this summer when he came to my house to have his first time in a pool.

He’s quite the little aqua man now, he loves his swimming lessons.

Ethan’s room is blue and brown, with monkeys, so we kept that theme for his invites.  I knew exactly where to go for the perfect stamp, to the Stampendous Changito line.

I gave Ethan’s mom and dad a few ideas and they picked the Birthday cake stamp, which I think is just perfect!

I wanted a soft vintage feel, because the image itself reminds me of the older cartoons with simple drawings.

I used Bazzil cardstock in Dark Chocolate, Yellow and Salt with some SU Old Olive and I used Very Vanilla instead of a bright white. May Arts celery ribbon was used for the sides.  The DP is…Bo Bunny! you guessed it!! ;)

The layout was loosely CASED from THIS card over at Christine’s Creations…thank you!

I used the nesties to cut out the image, and printed the sentiment on the computer and cut out again with the smaller nestibilities label. 

I watercoloured the image because I really liked the look of it, and used SU Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue and Old Olive. I used a Martha Stewart Brick marker for the berry and baby monkey’s tongue.

I distressed all the edges with Chocolate chip ink and I’m very pleased with how it turned out!

Now to finish the rest of them, and maybe start my Christmas cards…I know! Pathetic isn’t it?  A card maker who’s been so busy with other people’s orders that I haven’t even made my own Christmas cards yet!

I have another project to finish tonight for the girls at the salon that sells my cards.  I’ve never made it before, but I promise to post it, good or bad! lol

Sketchy

Sketches are my blueprints.  They allow me to get out of my comfort zone and grow.  I haven’t been great at keeping up with playing along for the last little while, but I’m hoping things will change.

I have quite a few cards I want to make over the next few days, and turned to some sketches for some inspiration.

I  wanted to make a Congratulations card for my friend H, who called me this week to tell me she was engaged! How exciting!! Both her and her fiancé are pilots, so earlier in the week I picked up my first EK punch- an airplane.

I used Taylor’s sketch for this card, and it also qualifies for the  A Spoon Full of Sugar Challenge 49- blue and green.

I flipped the sketch and did change it a little bit, the airplanes just didn’t look right grouped in the left corner, so I used some more on the inside. Cardstock is Bazzil, Ribbon is American Crafts stamp is SU and the DP is from my stash.

 

I needed some birthday cards and thank you cards, and turned to the WSC sketch which is hosted by Jen Balcer this weekend.

 

I used my paper from my $1.50 Michaels loot to make this card, and I really liked the layout.  I liked it so much, I made another as a thank you card, and then made 4 more to add to my Etsy store and to the hair salon here in town where I sell my cards. Both sentiments are SU.

Next up was a MojoMonday sketch for my mom’s Mother’s Day card.  She saw another card I made with the SU Fifth Ave rose stamp and loved it, so I knew I wanted to use that for her card.

This card took more work to put together, and I really wasn’t sure if the rose was such a good idea because it was so large.  Overall, I am happy with how this one turned out.  The card base is SU Sahara Sand, DP is double sided S.E.I Chocolate Nougat, Bazzil Raspberry Dream, and Bazzil Grey ( I’m sure it has some fancy name, but I can’t remember).  The ribbon is SU Chocolate Chip taffeta ribbon and the sentiment is from Stampendous Sunny Flowers set.  If you click on the picture, I softened the edges of the rose (stamped in SU Basic Gray) with my blender pen. 

I made one more card, but surprisingly didn’t follow a sketch for this one.  While making my Godson’s Christening card a few weeks ago, I realized I really liked the way white ink looks on SU Sahara Sand, and went from there.   Another birthday card using SU Birthday Whimsy set, it’s definitely one of my favourite sets of all time.

I stamped the present in white ink on Sahara Sand to create my own dp, and stamped the cake in SU Chocolate Chip.  It’s making me crave some chocolate cake!

 

I struggle making neutral cards, and simple cards as well.  But I really like the clean lines of this one and didn’t feel it needed any embellishments.

 

It’s a sunny Saturday here and I’m off this afternoon to watch my friend D in a charity wheelchair basketball tournament.
