Mini Valentines

I love all things mini. Mini cupcakes,  mini cookies, mini pies,…ok, I like mini desserts.

But I do love mini cards.  My  mini love notes are a testament to that; and I thought I’d offer a different style.

I found just enough Bo Bunny paper from last year and kept these pretty simple.

I made these business-card size, with the base Chocolate Chip- my go-to colour.  Some more Bazzil pink paper I had lying around and then a punched out heart in the same colour.

I distressed all the edges, and am really pleased with the effect.  I was worried the heart would be hard to distress and tear, but it was fine.  I don’t think I’d try it with a shape any smaller though.

I made a set of six- I think these would be great for the office or your group of close friends.  Nothing too fancy- I stamped Happy Valentine’s Day on the inside- but still a little something special.

You can find these little mini valentines in my Etsy shop –click here for a direct link.

Happy Thursday!

♪Love is in the Air…

Everywhere I look around/ Love is in the Air/ Every sight and every sound♪

Ok, I’m sorry, but I’ve literally had that song in my head for days since I’ve made this card.  I had this stamp made last year for the Boxer Short card but this year, I had something else in mind.

The stamp set is I {heart} Hearts from SU and is one of my favourites.  I turned the 3-heart stamps into balloons! I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The panel is actually canvas, but it didn’t stamp that well, so I stamped again on Whisper White and cut them out.

I took some basic white string and adhered them to the back to resemble balloons and popped them up on pop-dots.

Used some of my favourite Bo Bunny paper from last year…at least I think it’s Bo Bunny… the card base is Very Vanilla (WW was too stark with the dp), Pretty in Pink and some Bazzil Pink I had left over from last year.  The pink ribbon was part of a Christmas gift I received from a fellow paper crafter (Thanks Dorinda!).  Everything is inked up in Regal Rose- this card is PINK!

This card is available online- click here to purchase from my Etsy store… but be quick! I only made one!  I’m likely to make more with this concept (because the song is still in my head) but this pink paper is all gone.

Happy Monday!

Saturday Morning Breakfast: Cinnamon chip and Pecan Pancakes

Weekends mean I can stray from my usual oatmeal breakfast. I recently found some cinnamon chips and love adding them to...well everything.

As I reached for the cinnamon chips this morning, a little bag of chopped pecans fell out if the cupboard. Why not?

They were delicious!

What do you add to your pancakes?

Happy Saturday!

Happy New Year!

I can’t believe how fast this past year has gone.  I’ve been lucky enough to have taken many trips- the highlight was most definitely my trip to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

I saw two of my high school friends get married, and another welcome her first baby.

It was also a successful year for A Paper Buffet, making some great local connections.

I want to thank you all for your continued support and I can’t wait to see what 2011 has in store for us!

I’m busy working on some Valentine’s items and working on a new line that I hope to introduce to you soon.

Cheers to a happy, safe and successful 2011!

Happy Holidays from A Paper Buffet

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone for a great year. I've closed both stores until January 3rd 2011.

I'll be taking a vacation to New York City until the 22nd and then be travelling to my home town to spend the holidays with friends and family.

I have some great ideas for the stores for next year and I hope you'll join me and celebrate the growth of A Paper Buffet.

I hope to bring back "Foto Fridays" on a regular basis.I'll have plenty of pictures just from this NYC trip I'm sure!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. All the best to you and your family for 2011.

A week in review- in pictures

Sunday December 5th, Craft show at the lovely  Auberge du Petit Prince here in London.

Sunday December 5th-Wednesday December 8th- we got hit with a giant snowstorm that gave us more snow in three days than we got all of last year!

Snowbank or SUV? perspective

Friday, December 10th- I got a rockin’ new hair do:

Saturday, December 11th- I participated in An Artists Affair- my best show ever! I had so much fun, nearly sold out and met some wonderful people- customers and vendors alike!

What a great week!

I’ve got some custom orders to work on, my own Christmas cards to make and I’m counting down to my trip to New York City- only 6 days!

Happy Sunday,

Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

who me? yes you! not me! then who?

Sorry, I’ve had that song in my head since I’ve made these cookies in a jar as gifts this year.  I always like to give something handmade when I can and these were perfect for my boss, my massage therapist and my hair stylist.

I saved some Mason jars from my  Dad’s homemade pickles (yum) and   bookmarked this blog post from Tip Junkie listing 48 ways to give gifts in a jar.  48 ways!!! (I will think of someone I can give pie in a jar to because who wouldn’t love pie in a jar???)

The recipe for these cookies are actually Cowboy Cookies by Bakerella- click on Idea #20 on the Tip Junkie post.

*Sidebar- Check out #37, Bakerella’s Coca Cola Snowglobe cupcakes which are too freaken cool for words*

Truth be told, I really wanted to make Christmas Cookie tags, with a stamp I have from Clear Dollar Stamps, and this was perfect motivation.

I used my Nesties to create all the circles and stamped the sentiment in SU Chocolate Chip ink on SU Whisper White cardstock.  I layered SU Cherry Cobbler and Chocolate Chip, punched a hole, added some Martha Stewart baker’s twine, a gingerbread man from the best paper punch I own, and c’est finis!

{Every time I make one of these guys I think of “Not my gumdrop buttons!” from Shrek.}

I added the Gingerbread man, drew on some squiggles, buttons and a smiley face with a white gel pen and was finished the tag.

Now, back to the jar.  When Bakerella tells you to pack the ingredients tight or they won’t fit, she means it!  I had no idea what to use, so first I tried one of the beaters from my mixer, but it didn’t work so well.  Then I tried an ice cream scoop, but the angle wasn’t right for the jar.

Finally I found a digital thermometer which was flat topped, like this one, it worked perfectly!   I also would recommend using a funnel for the main ingredients, it made things easier.

I bought some fun Christmas fabric on my way home from work, sewed the edges on my tiny $20 sewing machine and wrapped some baker’s twine around the lids.

I love how they turned out, I love all the layers and the little bit of pecans peeking out

I gave my boss her cookies today and she was thrilled, it’s such a good feeling when you can give someone a gift like this.

If you’d like to make your own cookies in a jar, I have some tags in my Etsy store now.

Happy Baking!
