Celebrate in Style!

A recent custom order was for a special birthday card.  The recipient will be celebrating a milestone birthday, and my customer wanted this to be a special card.  Knowing the recipient’s favourite colours were orange and teal, I went hunting for some DP.  This is the card that started my obsession with the My Mind’s Eye Fine and Dandy paper, I just kept forgetting to post it and show you.

The layout is from MojoMonday (177 to be specific) and I really love how it turned out.  I completed this card far too late to include in the contest, but that’s the great thing about blog archives and sketches- they’re timeless!

The card base is SU So Saffron, and it’s just the perfect yellow tone.  It’s quickly becoming my favourite colour and works really well with the My Mind’s Eye paper.  I also used SU Pumpkin Pie for each layer.  The dress image is from Gina K, and one of my favourites for a really ‘girly’ card.  I paper pieced the dress with some more My Mind’s Eye paper, but stamped a flourish in the background before I added the dress.  I found some perfect satin ribbon in my stash and embellished the dress.  Of course I also had to add some rhinestones…a girly card is not complete without rhinestones!

I printed off the “40” on the computer; my original idea was to use small adhesive rhinestones and make the “40” really standout…but I couldn’t find small enough rhinestones to actually make it work.  So I turned to glitter, naturally!

The final touch to the card was actually the envelope; I lined it with yet some more of the My Mind’s Eye paper.  This was the customer’s favourite part and has ordered a few more cards, requesting the envelopes be lined with DP.  It’s not something I had done many times before, but I do really like how it ties everything together.

Happy Friday!

I love orange!

and grey, and ribbon, and when you put them together, you get…

I used the Fall-to-Layout 43 for this one, from the Clean and Simple Stamping blog. It was modified a bit, but that’s what sketches are for, right?

I stamped my favourite GinaK designs Retro Boutique and then paper pieced the dress with my other new obsession, Basic Grey paper.  I tied some orange ribbon on the dress, and added a little bling with a stick-on rhinestone.

A simple Happy Birthday sentiment from the same set is on the inside, and a matching strip of BG paper.

I have used this stamp set over and over and each card has such a different feel, it’s wonderful!

Happy Tuesday!

At $1.50…they don’t count

That’s what I told myself today.  I walked into Michaels on my way home from work, armed with my40% coupon to buy a specific punch for a special card (more on that later).  I walked by this display and found all this wonderful coordinating stuff!

1.50 Each item was only $1.50.  Therefore, it doesn’t count. I didn’t really spend all that much.  They had much more, but I limited myself to this haul here.  I couldn’t wait to rip open my new finds, and so after 8.5 hours on the road, in a terrible rain storm that created about 3 ft of visibility, I somehow found my second wind and sat down at my craft table.  I needed some thank you and birthday cards for a customer order; both Thank you stamps are SU and the ‘Happy Birthday’ stamp is GinaK.

I loved this weekend’s WSC78 sketch hosted by Sharon at Paperfections; I missed the deadline, but decided to play anyways.

I used the scraps of my beloved Yellow Bicycle paper and created two thank you cards:

wsc78.1

wsc78.2

I’m loving the buttons lately; I’ve been envious of everyone using buttons over the past few weeks, so I decided to give it a whirl.

Then I used MojoMonday sketch 82 for my next two cards and used the paper from my $1.50 haul

I wasn’t paying attention when I stamped the “Happy Birthday” for this next card, so it’s slightly differentmojomonday28.2

(sorry, the picture is a little blurry)

I took these pictures outside, we still have some daylight, and the sky has cleared from our torrential downpour that I had to drive through this morning.  Mother Nature sure is fickle!

I know it’s TwilightTuesday (check it out at TwilightTuesday.com), but I’ll be making my TTIC card tomorrow, (and that special card with that specific punch--- hopefully, tomorrow I only have  5 hours on the road, but about 4.5 hours of paperwork…) I just don’t have it in me after 4 cards.

Happy Tuesday!

Champagne Sundays and Champagne Birthdays

Happy Sunday!  Are you one of those who likes Sunday? or dreads them because Mondays come next?  I enjoy my Sundays, and try not to make a habit of dreading Monday morning…although tomorrow for I will be spending 7 hours on the road.

I had a co-worker to celebrated “Champagne Sundays”.  He and his fiancĂ© would pop a bottle of champagne and celebrate the weekend they had just shared.  I think it’s a great way to keep a bit of perspective…although a bottle of Champagne each weekend? Yikes!   I think he said after a few weeks, they switched to sparkling wine, lol.

I was hopping around SCS yesterday and noticed this card;  I think it’s a great layout and since I needed a birthday card for my youngest cousin, I decided it was time for a CASE. My cousin will be celebrating her Champagne Birthday this year, 19 years old on the 19th of April.  (I think I got jipped…I was born on the 9th of July! Unless my parents swapped some 7-up for Champagne, I’m sure I missed out).  irinabday2

I kept with the Champagne theme and chose some soft yellow Bazzil cardstock, which matched perfectly with the SU paper I got in Sale-A-Bration.  I used My Favorite Things stamp from the “Say Charge” set…I just love this one! I mounted everything on dimensionals.

I found some great frosted silver brads in my stash (I really need to look there more often) and added some MS sparkle to the flower on the purse.  I’m satisfied with my colouring, but not thrilled.  I think I need to be more patient with watercolouring.

Since I irinabday3have no clue what to buy her for her 19th birthday, I’ll give her some cash so she can spend as she likes.  So I turned the card into a money holder (don’t worry I’m giving her more than $20, it’s all I had on me); I hadn’t made one for quite a while, and it shows in my less than clean cut.  I added the sentiment which is from GinaK.  I think it looks a little bland, so I might spice it up with some….well, something.

I also made some Easter tags today, Easter tags1

I just love this little bunny stamp! I added glitter to the tail, I tried some FunFlock, but I think the glitter looks better.

Well, that’s it for me~ off to celebrate the rest of my Champagne Sunday.  Cheers!
